Speak Life

You may have heard the importance of the tongue for our fleshly bodies

The tongue assists with

chewing and swallowing food

speaking and enunciating words properly

even controlling the taste buds that send a sensory signal to the brain.

But did you know just how powerful the tongue is for us spiritually?

The tongue is of more importance then assisting with eating

It could be the difference between life or death (Proverbs 18;20-21)

Is your tongue sore, bumpy or burning?

Are you speaking words that corrupts the whole body or are you speaking life?

Do you thank the Lord then curse out the driver that cuts you off on the freeway?

do you invite lust into your life when you slide into a DM?

maybe even gossip about others?

God ask that we tame the tongue (James 3; 5-12)

Maybe you’ve heard the saying sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. The saying should have said sticks and stones may break my bones, but words are powerful weapons. Maybe then we all would be more considerate of what we say. With the assistance of the Holy spirit taming the tongue is possible. Three steps that can be used to begin taming the tongue:

  1. Through Repentance: We must ask the Lord for forgiveness for harsh words we may have spoken to others and over our own lives. We are asked to speak the truth in love, showing growth and maturity in the body of Christ. (Ephesians 4;15)

  2. Through Prayer: Staying committed to prayer, we can seek holistic purity. Praying that God protects the mind from thoughts that lead to words of fire. We can pray for discernment of the words we speak so the feelings of our heart match the thoughts in our mind only producing words of life.(Psalms 19;14)

  3. Through Practice: Staying intentional on speaking life and only using words to encourage, comfort, edify and build up ourselves and others allows life to appear. (Ephesians 4;29)

When you speak death, you put out spiritual odors, but when we speak life the dead situation will breathe again- Pastor Will
