The Pride of Life

Question:

Do you ignore what you should do for your own wants or do you stay in your lane?

We are guided to:

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15.

As believers you can live without sin. We are provided guidance from the Word on three things to avoid that can cause sin:

  • The lust of the flesh

  • The lust of the eyes

  • The pride of life

These three things are not of the Father but of the world. 1 John 2:16

The definition of Lust is to have a very strong sexual desire, and although the devil isn’t Kendrick Lamar he can make sin look sexy and appeasing to our eyes.

To have Pride is to have deep pleasure from one’s own achievements. Proverbs 26;12 tells us “a man wise in his own conceit; a fool has more hope than him.” Conceit is to have excessive pride in oneself.

Are you focused on self love more than obeying the Lords Word? “If you have foolishly lifted up yourself or if you have thought evil lay your hand over your mouth”- proverbs 30;32

We are warned that:

“pride will bring you Low; Honor will uphold and humble in spirit” Proverbs 29;23

To sin is to be in a physical state and not of the spirit. If we remain in the spirit as we should the flesh will not have Glory as the presence of the Lord is within us.

Often sin is confused with struggles or storms. Even through struggles or a time of a storm we are to still remain in control and not sin. In Genesis we get to see struggle appear through Eve when she was communicating with the serpent. At that point she had free will to choose life or sin. Eve took the option to her husband Adam, who chose to follow his wife & sin rather than follow the Word of the Lord. (Genesis 3)

Ask yourself who are you listening to?

We are asked to remove pride and obey; three ways on how to do so:

  • Walk righteously (proverbs 28;6)

  • Confess our sins and forsake them (proverbs 28:13)

  • Trust in the Lord and be made fat (proverbs 28;25)

Will you choose to live for Christ or die to sin?

Lord I pray whoever reads this says yes to your will, & yes I will obey your word. You have given us the ability to have self control and be vigilant to remain without sin. Whatever is needed to obey your word I boldly say yes and will do. Thank you Jesus as your sacrifice has given us the opportunity to walk righteously in the sight of the Father and not of our own will. If is not of you Lord we will not follow. We turn from evil and remain in you. In Jesus name, amen.
